Effective October 13, 2026
Athar is built to run entirely on your device. Prayer time and Qibla calculations, your saved location, and your settings never leave your phone. The one exception is anonymous usage analytics, covered below — nothing that identifies you personally is ever collected, stored, or sold.
Athar has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no advertising, and we do not collect anything that identifies you personally — no name, email, or precise whereabouts. The app does send a small number of anonymous usage signals, such as which tab you opened or which feature you used (for example, placing a plane on the Flight Mode map), to help us understand how Athar is used and improve it. These signals never include your location, search queries, or anything else that could identify you. See Third parties, below, for exactly what this involves.
When you tap Update My Location on the Prayer Times tab, or search for a city, Athar uses Apple's on-device location and mapping services (Core Location / MapKit) to determine coordinates and, when searching, to resolve a place name to a location. That is handled directly between your device and Apple — Athar never receives it, and never sends it anywhere. Everything computed from it (prayer times, Qibla direction) happens locally on your device.
Because Apple's own services are involved in resolving a searched city name or a location's time zone, that part of the exchange is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one.
The position you place on the map in Flight Mode is used only on your device to calculate prayer times and Qibla direction for that spot. It works fully offline. If your device happens to have a network signal, Athar will also ask Apple's location services for that position's exact time zone, purely to keep the daylight-saving calculation accurate — the same arrangement described in Location, above. This never touches a server we operate, and is separate from the anonymous usage analytics described under Third parties, which never include this position.
Your selected location, calculation method, and other preferences are saved locally in your device's app storage. If you use the Lock Screen widget, that same information is shared privately between the Athar app and the widget on your own device only, using Apple's standard App Group mechanism — it is never transmitted off the device.
Prayer time notifications, if you turn them on, are scheduled and delivered entirely by your device's operating system. Athar does not use a push notification service and has no way to see whether or when a notification was shown.
Athar uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand anonymous, aggregate usage patterns — for example, which tab gets used most, or whether the map or manual coordinate entry is used more often in Flight Mode. This helps us prioritize what to fix and improve.
You can read TelemetryDeck's own policy at telemetrydeck.com/privacy. Athar does not include any other third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software development kits (SDKs).
Athar does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because the app does not collect personal information from anyone — see What we collect and Third parties, above, for the only data it sends anywhere, which is anonymous and not personally identifying.
Athar is developed by an individual based in Sydney, Australia, and this policy is governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Since Athar does not collect personal information in the first place, most data-protection regimes that are triggered by data collection — such as Australia's Privacy Act 1988, the EU's GDPR, or California's CCPA — are unlikely to apply to it, but Athar aims to respect your privacy regardless of where you're located.
If this policy ever changes, the update will be posted at this same page with a new effective date above.
